Last month, Mr. Fletcher was indicted in the Dec. 6, 1986, killing of Peggy Sue Calvillo, a mother of two from Sterling. The indictment came after Mr. Fletchers DNA profile was resubmitted for further testing and found to match a genetic profile derived from evidence contained in a so-called rape kit from the Calvillo case.
After he was charged with murdering Ms. Salisbury in 1995, Mr. Fletcher, a drifter who sometimes lived out of his car, told investigators he had been involved in at least six homicides, including the killing of Ms. Calvillo, former Worcester District Attorney John J. Conte said at the time.
Mr. Fletcher reportedly told investigators he accidentally hit Ms. Calvillo with his car on Route 12 in Sterling, then drove her to a secluded area in Lancaster, where he raped and left her. Mr. Conte described Mr. Fletcher as a suspect in the death of Ms. Calvillo and said he had also told police that he killed two prostitutes in Worcester in 1992 and 1993 and was involved in the abduction and killing of a couple from Brookline, N.H.
