Boston Adult Entertainment: Hub escort service cheers Craigslist ad shutdown

A Boston woman who runs an escort referral business is cheering the suspension of Craigslist’s adult services ads, saying prostitutes will be safer without them and her business likely will improve.
“My business will definitely pick up,” said Julie, who advertises a “premiere” Boston-based escort service on Google and withheld her last name for legal reasons.
The 14-year businesswoman said her higher-priced escort service took quite a nosedive with the explosion in popularity of Craigslist’s adult service listings.
“With Craigslist, there’s no middleman,” she said. “It’s like going to a furniture outlet instead of Jordan’s or Cardi’s. So guys figure, ‘Why pay $200 to have a girl come here, when I can pay $120 to go see her.’ ”

But Julie said Craigslist was one of the most popular places for independent prostitutes to offer their services. The listings put the girls at risk, while driving down prices, she said.
