TOFINO A well-known tugboat operator pleaded guilty in Tofino provincial court Monday to trying to buy sex off a 15-year-old girl and operating one of his vessels while impaired.
B.C. Provincial Court Judge Douglas Cowling handed Edward W. Hudson, owner of the Go Getter and four other tugs, a two-year-conditional sentence and three years of probation after the mariner pleaded guilty to a charge of communicating for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.
Hudson also pleaded guilty to operating a vessel while impaired, received a $1,000 fine and lost his licence for one year.
I feel really embarrassed about the whole thing, said Hudson, who noted he feels bad for his employees, too.
Provincial Crown counsel David Kidd said Hudson propositioned the same 15-year-old girl twice in two days in Port Alberni Oct. 23 and Oct. 24. He said Hudson even offered extra payment because of her age.
