Markoff, a native of upstate New York, died while awaiting trial on charges that he killed Brisman and attacked two other women in Boston and Warwick, R.I., in attempted robberies over a seven-day period in April last year.
He had met the women through ads in the erotic services category of Craigslist, authorities said.
Markoff, who was a second-year medical student at the time and living with his fiancee in Quincy, allegedly shot Brisman three times with a handgun on April 14 last year after they struggled fiercely in the doorway of her room on the 20th floor of the Marriott Copley Place hotel, authorities said.
The fatal shot pierced her heart.
