Boston Strip Clubs: Accused Craigslist killer commits suicide

City Councilor Stephen Murphy said Monday that Philip Markoff should not have been able to kill himself while in custody of the Suffolk County sheriff. Markoff was discovered dead in his cell Sunday morning. Authorities say anĀ  investigation will be conducted to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding his death.
Boston Police and the Suffolk County district attorney are investigating whether Markoff committed suicide. But Murphy wants them also to probe procedures at the Nashua Street jail.
An attorney for the family of victim Julissa Brisman says Markoff’s death prevents a long-awaited opportunity to confront him and hear the details of Brisman’s final moments.
The former Boston University medical student had been placed on a suicide watch at the jail following his arrest in April 2009.
Markoff had pleaded not guilty in the fatal shooting of New York City resident Julissa Brisman and the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman. Rhode Island prosecutors had accused him of attacking a stripper.
