With a vote of 1-1, the board effectively made no recommendation on an article town officials and members of the town’s Bylaw Review Committee say is Middleton’s best, and perhaps final, chance at finding an out-of-the-way place for an adult zone.
Officials said they were attempting to head off a strip club or adult video or bookstore from settling along Route 114, but those affected by the proposal were dead-set against it.
“It’s between a school and a rod and gun club, so I don’t think it’s a good idea,” said Eileen Bakoian of Liberty Street.
“Our concern is that of a club of over 2,000 members, our vote is limited to the voters of the town,” said Michael Caggiano, the club’s secretary.
“I think it’s highly unlikely that anything like a Golden Banana would want to settle down there,” said Planning Board Chairman Robert Aldenberg, referring to the Peabody strip club on Route 1.
