Boston Strip Clubs: ZIMMERMAN v. PUCCIO

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

The Puccios treated their companies interchangeably. They charged expenses for one company to the credit card of another, while paying the bill with a check from yet another of the corporations. At least one person who worked for CCC, Cambridge and BC Mass at different times directly received the bank statements and paid the bills of one Puccio company while he was not an employee of that company, but instead worked for a different Puccio enterprise. While John Puccio was running Cambridge, the company paid large sums of money to other Puccio-controlled companies without consideration. For example, JRJ Associates, Inc., a company owned by John and Richard Puccio, was paid at least $150,000 by Cambridge. John and Richard Puccio also purchased personal items with corporate funds. Personal charges from a “gentleman’s club” and for a yacht appeared on the Puccio companies’ corporate credit card bills.

Boston Strip Clubs: OPINION: Stoughton police do the right thing

New Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany has taken over a police department stained in the past with corruption and internal rivalries.
His years of experience and status as an outsider have gone a long way toward returning respectability to local police. That doesn’t mean there won’t be problems along the way; but the hope is that Shastany deals with them swiftly and wisely.
That appears to be the case in the recent scandal involving former Stoughton police officer Richard Bennett and Bridget “The Midget” Powers, a 3-foot-9 adult film star performing at local strip club Alex’s.
Bennett showed up at the club one night, in uniform and on duty, and had his picture taken with Powers. He was already under investigation for altering his police firearm and, after showing the Powers photo around the police station, other officers reported him.

Boston Strip Clubs: To Revere Beach on bike

Monday, July 26th, 2010

This Sunday I biked there from Somerville. I went up Route 99 into Everett, and then merged onto Route 16. Things were going as expected, but then little by little Route 16 turned from a fast route through an urban area – not the most hospitable ride, but manageable – into a real highway, complete with off-ramps and underpasses. The actual highway part only lasted for a mile or so, but it was memorable.
On the way back, I decided to go along the coast, through East Boston and Chelsea. This route was a lot nicer. Downtown Chelsea is really pretty and so are parts of Eastie, especially close to the water. There’s only one hitch. That route took my past King Arthur’s, a strip club and motel that’s on a pothole-strewn road in the shadow of the large power plant on the shores of the Mystic River. For a journo such as myself, it’s an awesome sight to behold – so far metaphorically and so close geographically to the tourist hot spots. But, it’s also pretty nasty bicycling in the fields around the gas power plant.

Boston Strip Clubs: Towns plan ahead for strip clubs and porn stores

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

With a strip club proposed in Mendon and a sports bar asking Milford officials for permission to bring in racy dancers, 2008 brought an X-rated wakeup call for nearby Medway.
After reviewing the town’s rules for adult entertainment businesses, planners said they feared the zone for adult video stores and similar shops was too small, leaving Medway vulnerable to a legal challenge. The rules also would have allowed such businesses on Rte. 109 – a major street.

This month, Groton plumber Joe Ferguson proposed turning the former Tin Alley Grill on Rte. 9 in Framingham into a strip club. He withdrew the plans when the site’s owner backed out, but he has said he is working on a “Plan B.”

Mendon residents tightened regulations on strip clubs in 2008 after applications for an adult entertainment license in their town. In Milford, after Doc’s Sports Bar proposed having dancers with occasional nudity, Town Meeting fleshed out its regulations too.

Boston Adult Entertainment: Police continue crack down on vehicles registered out of state

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Fiorentini said the crackdown is working, and one resident who came up to him while he was having breakfast downtown recently said he took his car off the road because he knew police were checking out-of-state plates.
“This shows the system is working and that it has the deterrent effect that we want it to,” the mayor said. “Ultimately, we want the public to have confidence that everyone is sharing in these tough times.”
To make reporting of possible violators easier, the city added a link to the main page of its website, haverhill.ma.us. The link is at the bottom right of the page and is under Department Quick Links/Police. The reporting form asks only for the plate number, state and location.
Police say they are devoting what resources they can given higher priority public safety issues, such as robberies, assaults, vandalism, prostitution and drugs.

Boston Strip Clubs: Publicity from “Bridget the Midget” story could benefit strip club

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

The Stoughton police officer who was forced to resign following his trip to a local strip club to see a diminutive porn star certainly couldn’t have welcomed all the ensuing publicity. But all the coverage of the story in the past week was good news for the business, Club Alex’s in Stoughton.
A manager who answered the phone at Alex’s and said his name was David told me he expects all the attention that Bridget “The Midget” Powers’ visit to Alex’s has generated for the club will help sell tickets for the 3’ 9” porn star’s return visit to the club for three days at the end of August.
Apparently, Powers drew sell-out crowds during her recent three-night appearance, when the Stoughton cop visited Alex’s in uniform while on duty. Tickets sold for $15 apiece, according to the club manager, who didn’t want to give me his last name.

Boston Strip Clubs: Strippers, ‘rub girls’ settle suit with Stoughton’s Club Alex’s

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Dancers and massage workers at Club Alex’s won a cash settlement after filing a lawsuit claiming they were deprived of wages and benefits at the strip club in Stoughton.

By Allan Stein ENTERPRISE CORRESPONDENT Posted Jul 23, 2010 @ 06:18 AM Last update Jul 23, 2010 @ 07:21 AM STOUGHTON — Six former strippers and massage workers have won a cash settlement from Club Alex’s, after a $600,000 civil suit in which they claimed the club cheated them out of wages, tips and other employee benefits. In the lawsuit, filed in May and settled last month, the plaintiffs argue the club classified them as independent contractors but treated them as employees by scheduling their shifts, controlling their wardrobe and mandating their performance music. A lawyer for the plaintiffs said a non-disclosure clause in the settlement agreement prohibits him from discussing it. The lawsuit says the workers “were not truly entrepreneurs who had the opportunity to grow a business but were, instead, employees who have …

Boston Escorts: Q&A: Nikky Singh

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

The tour changed me so much. It really opened my eyes. I teach a course on South Asian women writers, and I talk about authors and film directors who’ve made films about the slums in Mumbai or the red light district there. Going to see that had a profound impression on me. To hear the women there tell their stories, firsthand. It was so sad to hear how they’ve lost their womanhood; they’ve lost their lives. But there’s hope, too. They are fighting for a better life, and there are groups like the Among Women tours going and learning from and about these women, learning how to help. That’s what I’m bringing back to my classrooms. The hope. You can read about women in these slums, in the red light district, about how they’ve lost their identity, but to go and see how people are changing and the hope and the smiles that exist, it’s really reassuring. You see the worst, but also the best.

Boston Adult Entertainment: Talk about a short-term goal

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

A Peabody man was arrested Wednesday night inside an Eagle Hill Shaw’s Supermarket for allegedly trying to buy money orders with fake cash.
A cashier on duty told cops when the suspect gave her $1,500 for three money orders, she noticed seven of the bills – totaling $350 – were different from the rest, police reported.
The suspect told officers he was using the money orders to pay rent on a new apartment, cops said.
Johnny J. Taylor was charged with possession of counterfeit bills.
A South End man, allegedly dressed as a woman, was arrested early Wednesday in a drug bust on Linden Street, police reported.
Three suspects were arrested after they gave conflicting statements about why they were in a car together, cops said. Robert Atkins was charged with prostitution. Michael Leonard of Somerville and Laura Butler of Wakefield were both charged with soliciting and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
