Boston Strip Clubs: Former basketball star Robinson convicted

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Robinson said on loan documents that the money would be “short-term working capital’’ for his business, Megaladon Development Inc. in Miami, for a development project in Jamaica, according to yesterday’s statement.
Instead, prosecutors said, Robinson and his girlfriend, Stephenie Hodge, spent the money on a condominium with plasma televisions and high-end furniture.
Authorities said Hodge was listed as the Megaladon marketing director, though she actually worked in an exotic dance club. Phone numbers listed for Hodge and Robinson in Florida have been disconnected. Robinson’s attorney, J. Keith Rigg of Des Moines, could not be reached for comment.
By November 2005, Klinefeldt’s office said, Robinson had obtained more than $700,000 in loans from the bank but had not made a single repayment. Prosecutors said Robinson spent the money on more personal items, including $44,000 to buy or lease 10 vehicles, a $3,000 tab at a strip club, and a dog that cost $1,000.

Boston Strip Clubs: Share and share a bike

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

MONTREAL — “Where do I begin?’’ Shirley Bassey purred 40 years ago while singing the theme from the film “Love Story.’’ “To tell the story of how great a love can be?’’
In my case, where I begin is not to profess a deep love for Ali MacGraw — or even Ryan O’Neal — but I’m declaring my love for approximately 5,000 bicycles that reside in Montreal. It’s hard not to fall in love when you’re in Montreal on a balmy summer evening. Meandering through this charming Quebec city can feel like a stroll in Paris, but with more strip clubs,
, and fried chicken restaurants. My heart was unprepared, however, for the moment that I laid eyes on my first Bixi.
Bixi, short for Bicycle Taxi, is a one-piece, aluminum frame bicycle that is part of the bike sharing program that was introduced in Montreal last summer. It’s such a success story here that it migrated to the US this summer. With a sleek exterior and pedal-powered f …

Boston Strip Clubs: Former NBA player Rumeal Robinson guilty of fraud

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

They said Robinson put the condo in the name of his girlfriend, listing her as his company’s marketing director though she actually worked in a strip club.
Williams later approved an $80,000 loan for Robinson, which was supposed to be used for business but again was spent on personal items, including cars, clothes and more furniture, prosecutors said.
When Williams’ lending authority at the bank ran out, he and Robinson circumvented the $500,000 limit by having the mother-in-law of Robinson’s business partner, Jorge Rodriguez, sign documents for a $150,000 loan that was wired directly to Robinson’s company.
Prosecutors said the woman was told she was signing the documents to invest in Robinson’s company, but he spent $44,000 to buy or lease 10 vehicles, including three Mercedes, two BMWs and five motorcycles. He also spent $3,000 at strip clubs, bought a dog for $1,000 and spent $28,000 on house-related payments, prosecutors said.

Mike Bagge believes Labor Day was made a holiday for all the hardworking folks like him.
“You know what I think? Christmas is for kids. Thanksgiving is for the whole family,” he said in his shop on Kuniholm Drive, Holliston. “Labor Day is my holiday because I’ve worked so hard all my life.”
Since 2003, Bagge, 51, has owned East Coast Perfection Coatings with shops in Holliston and Framingham. He works 50 hours a week with 10 employees covering pliers and wire strippers with electricity-resistant insulation.
The work is hot, hard, unglamorous and critical for anyone working on live electrical wires.
Bagge called his workers – five native-born Americans and five immigrants – “incredibly hardworking guys.” Asked to rate their work’s difficulty, he described plastic coating as “an 8 or 9 on a 10-point scale.”

Boston Adult Entertainment: Hotel gone wrong

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

This week, when the Beverly Motel was surrounded by chain-link fence and forced to close for a month because of drugs and prostitution, Milliken smiled from ear to ear.
“I’m very excited. It’s going to be a good 30 days.”
One block away from the intersection where the motel sits, the residents of a seniors’ complex heard the news at a tenant meeting.

The closure was announced Wednesday by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team after a one-year investigation that uncovered drug-trafficking and prostitution among the 17 rooms.

Edmonton police Sgt. Jason Altmiks, a foot-patrol officer, said the area has become a vibrant one, though still with occasional blights. He isn’t sure where the dealers and prostitutes will go, but said disrupting their patterns is a good start.

For area businesses, there’s hope that the 30-day closure will give their customers and clients a break from the prostitution along the street.

Boston Adult Entertainment: Quincy photographer’s body of work includes Playboy, weddings and exotic locales

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

That confidence and flexibility define Chan. She has taught herself ever since she started taking photos when she was a student at Fontbonne Academy. She was just a college sophomore when her shots of Boston fashion shows landed her first job shooting a local Playboy Golf Scramble, where men play golf as beautiful women accompany them on the course. The golf winners choose their favorite women, who become the subjects of Chan’s photo shoot.
Eventually, she went on to shoot the semifinals in Las Vegas and the finals at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills. About a dozen of her photos from this year’s Playboy Golf Scramble and accompanying Pajama and Lingerie Party ran in the July issue of Playboy. One of her photos was of Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker with Ashley Dupre, former New York District Attorney Eliot Spitzer’s call girl.

Boston Adult Entertainment: Hub escort service cheers Craigslist ad shutdown

Monday, September 6th, 2010

A Boston woman who runs an escort referral business is cheering the suspension of Craigslist’s adult services ads, saying prostitutes will be safer without them and her business likely will improve.
“My business will definitely pick up,” said Julie, who advertises a “premiere” Boston-based escort service on Google and withheld her last name for legal reasons.
The 14-year businesswoman said her higher-priced escort service took quite a nosedive with the explosion in popularity of Craigslist’s adult service listings.
“With Craigslist, there’s no middleman,” she said. “It’s like going to a furniture outlet instead of Jordan’s or Cardi’s. So guys figure, ‘Why pay $200 to have a girl come here, when I can pay $120 to go see her.’ ”

But Julie said Craigslist was one of the most popular places for independent prostitutes to offer their services. The listings put the girls at risk, while driving down prices, she said.
