A 64 year-old tugboat operator faced two quite different charges in Tofino court March 1 and pled guilty to both. Edward W. Hudson was charged with impaired driving of a motor vessel and also with communication with a person for the purposes of soliciting prostitution.
Crown attorney David Kidd said the impaired charges stemmed from an incident May 15, 2009, when Hudson was hired by a group of three people to take them to Hot Springs Cove aboard his vessel, the Go Getter.
Ahousaht RCMP and the Tofino Coast Guard eventually engaged in a rescue after one of the motors and the navigational equipment on the boat malfunctioned. When rescuers found the vessel and finally succeeded in boarding it, Hudson, who was intoxicated, became aggressive. Hudson continued to be “vulgar” with police when they returned him to the Tofino detachment. Tests showed Hudson had a blood alcohol level of 140 mgs.

They’re a collection of short stories, “Nine Stories,” and two compilations: “Franny and Zooey” and “Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction.” They are all works of art.

New Hampshire man serving prison sentence pleads guilty to raping New Bedford prostitute
NEW BEDFORD — A New Hampshire man already serving 25 to 30 years in prison for raping four prostitutes in Brockton pleaded guilty Friday to raping a New Bedford prostitute.
Brian D. Knippers, 36, admitted to picking up the woman in April 2008 and driving her to a secluded area of New Bedford, where he tied her up, threatened to kill her and repeatedly raped and beat her with a large stick.

The New Bedford woman identified Knippers as the man who sexually assaulted her after being shown a photo array by detectives. The rape occurred the same day a Brockton prostitute told police there that she had encountered Knippers and recognized him as the man who had raped her two years earlier.
