Boston Escorts: Boston University Paper’s April Fools Issue Gone Awry: Rape Jokes Immediately …

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

The story, which was not posted online, caused a stir beyond the BU bubble not long after the issue became available. It draws from familiar Disney references, but it’s essentially joking about rape and roofied sorority girls. The leading sentence is, “Seven frat dwarves were arrested last night after they allegedly drugged and gangbanged a Boston University student in an Allston Village cabin.” Later in the story comes this:
“BRO has bro0ed itself out,” said Gaston, the Chairman of the IFC. “No one drinks like the BROs, no one shoots like the BROs and definitely no one rapes like the BROs.”
You can read the whole story over at Jezebel. The story beneath that one had the headline, “Cinderella in political prostitution ring, stepsisters vie for throne.” Picking up on the outrage, the FreeP again took to Twitter: “We want to apologize for our ill thought out April Fools issue and are so sorry for offending our readers.” Another tweet followed up: “We know an apology does not make up for the callous decisions we made, but please look out for a letter from the editors in tomorrow issue.”

Boston University newspaper under scrutiny
BOSTON (WHDH) — The Boston University school newspaper, ‘The Daily Free Press’ printed its annual April Fool’s Day issue looking for a few laughs but some students are taking issue with the “foolish headline” on the front page.
The paper’s editor took time to apologize for the headline and the content in that issue.
Students called said the issue was in poor taste and poor timing. They said they were taking issue with several stories that centered around rape, drug use and prostitution.
One of the top stories was about a drugging and gang rape by seven fraternity dwarfs and another was about Cinderella’s prostitution ring busted.
“It’s just really disturbing to me that this is a joke and that people are joking about this, especially in our culture at BU,” said Grace Vonmaluski, a BU student.

Boston Escorts: On Being Gay In Medicine: A Leading Harvard Pediatrician’s Story

Friday, March 30th, 2012

There was a junior faculty member at Beth Israel Hospital who was out and actually willing to talk with gay students. When I made my pilgrimage to meet her, even she advised me to remain closeted until after I got my first semester grades. She explained that the school would want to kick me out if they learned I was gay, and they could use poor grades as an excuse.
That’s not to say that there was silence about gay people. We did learn about them in an elective course on “special” populations. One week we learned about prostitution; another, about drug addicts. In between, we learned about homosexuals. A real live one showed up to tell us what it was like. He was articulate and our own age and seemed just like all of us. Indeed, I knew him. We had gone to college together and he was a student at Harvard Law School. I sat in awe of his bravery and prayed no one had seen him say hi to me.

Boston Escorts: ‘Truth’ an intense historical thriller

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Kieran Shields creates a pitch perfect atmosphere in The Truth of All Things, a tale set in Portland, Maine, during the summer of 1892. Two hundred years earlier in Salem, Massachusetts, the Salem witch trials brought about a period of paranoia and insecurity. Deputy Marshal Archie Lean’s mind is on his family and job when a case lands directly in his lap. A prostitute is found murdered with her body laid out like a pentagram and her neck held to the ground with a pitchfork. With the help of criminalist Perceval Grey and Helen Prescott, a historian with access to old documents, the parallels to the past quickly add up. Disturbingly, they determine that this woman might not be the first one.
The perpetrator, a brilliant mastermind using multiple pseudonyms from key figures of the historical witch trials, proves difficult to apprehend. Grey plays Sherlock Holmes, utilizing keen insight and pre-forensic science to uncover the evidence necessary to capture the killer. Prescott uses her deep knowledge of the past to provide plausible links to the present in the killer’s mind. Lean brings the authority, muscle and judgment to put the various puzzle pieces together.

Boston Escorts: 4 arrested under new Mass. human trafficking law

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

… Over a period of time, in the last four weeks, we believe that between two to three women a week, in total over 12 women — some locally, some from out of state — were brought to these locations in order to provide sexual trafficking,” Coakley said.
She said it appears many of the women were trafficked throughout New England.
The investigation included electronic surveillance, according to Coakley, and was conducted with the help of state, local and federal law enforcement officials, including the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
Coakley said the investigation is ongoing.
The arrests are the first under the state’s new human trafficking law, which was signed by Gov. Deval Patrick last fall and officially took effect on Feb. 19,
The law is designed to change the focus of police and prosecutors from targeting prostitutes to going after the men who pay for sex with them and the pimps who profit from the transactions.
