Boston Adult Entertainment: Sharon may allow sale of hard liquor at stores

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Wegmans at the stalled Westwood Station development has not yet been built, but the town has approved licenses for beer and wine sales at High Street Market and Roche Bros. Supermarkets and has received an application from Lambert’s Rainbow Fruit.
A second alcohol-related article on the Sharon warrant for Monday would reduce the number of seats a restaurant must have to serve all alcoholic drinks, a move Powell said is intended to help restaurants whose seating is limited by the capacity of septic systems.
The minimum seating would drop from 50 to 18. It would affect three existing businesses.
For the seating article, the Finance Committee voted differently — 4 to 3 against — saying it was unwarranted. The selectmen approved it unanimously. Town Meeting will have the final say about whether to pursue a home-rule petition.
Another Town Meeting article likely to elicit debate deals with adult entertainment zoning.

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — An investigation into the alleged shakedown of Providence strip clubs left the New England mafia without its reputed leader Wednesday as authorities arrested Anthony L. DiNunzio on charges he oversaw the mob’s extortion of adult entertainment businesses and sought to broaden the crime operation’s influence.
DiNunzio, 53, was arrested by authorities at a social club in the North End section of Boston on a federal indictment Tuesday, officials said. The indictment describes DiNunzio as the brutal acting leader of the New England branch of La Cosa Nostra who vowed to use violence on anyone who balked at his commands.

Aside from allegations that DiNunzio oversaw the extortion of strip clubs, the indictment claims he sent a member of the mob to New York to seek permission from the Gambino crime family to shake down an adult entertainment executive from Rhode Island.

Boston Adult Entertainment: Charles Shaughnessy’s Shane Donovan back on DAYS; a look at Shane’s past

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Just when Shane and his new little family seemed perfectly happy, yet another jilted former partner, Gabrielle Pascal resurfaced in Salem. Gabrielle double-crossed Shane by pretending to be a Russian spy with whom she claimed he had an affair. As if that wasn’t enough, Shane also learned he had a teenaged daughter, Eve, by his now-deceased ex-wife, Emma. Kimberly befriended Eve because of their similar backgrounds as teen prostitutes. Unbeknownst to Shane and Kimberly, Eve was plotting to break them up as she blamed them for her mother’s death. Kimberly, who was pregnant again, came to Eve’s aide when Eve’s former pimp, Nick Corelli came back into the picture and forced the teen back into life on the streets. As is typical for Salem’s ladies of the evening, the working girls soon became the target of violence. The Riverfront Knifer attacked Eve, and when Kimberly showed up to help, she too was attacked, resulting in the loss of her baby. Also during this storyline, it wasn’t long before Shane discovered that Eve’s mother was actually Gabrielle, not Emma.

BOSTON — The wife of former Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate and convenience store magnate Christy Mihos reportedly has filed for divorce.
WBZ-TV reports Andrea Mihos was in Barnstable Probate and Family Court on Thursday.

A lawyer for Christy Mihos, who did not appear in court, said his client has been living an “almost monastic life” in the financial sense since the couple separated.
Christy Mihos lives in Florida while Andrea Mihos lives on Cape Cod.

Boston Strip Clubs: Feds: Mob in chaos with Anthony DiNunzio at helm

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Ferland said DiNunzio was told by his associates that former godfather Francis “Cadillac Frank” Salemme was “giving up everybody” and ordered one of his henchman to locate him.
“Fortunately, Mr. Salemme is tucked away safely,” Ferland said.
Anthony DiNunzio is the younger brother of former reputed boss Carmen “The Cheeseman” DiNunzio, now serving a six-year stretch for bribery.
Ferland said Anthony DiNunzio’s trusted Rhode Island captain, Edward “Eddy” Lato, last April told an informant — now in witness protection — that DiNunzio is “nuts” and questioned the legitimacy of his rise to the top after his brother was busted.
Lato, Ferland said, also complained about DiNunzio’s Robin Hood-esque penchant for taking cash they were extorting from Rhode Island strip clubs and “giving it away like candy.” Another mobster, identified only as “Mr. S,” was tapped by DiNunzio to run Rhode Island but was taped saying he planned to break out on his own.

Boston Strip Clubs: Reputed mob boss ordered held sans bail in RI

Friday, May 4th, 2012

The reputed acting boss of the New England mafia on Thursday was ordered to remain held without bail while awaiting trial on charges he participated in the shakedown of Providence strip clubs — a rap that prosecutors say Anthony L. DiNunzio boasted he could beat with his “nine lives.”

The indictment claims DiNunzio looked beyond strip clubs for extortion opportunities. Prosecutors say DiNunzio sent a member of the mob to New York to seek permission from the Gambino crime family to shake down an adult entertainment executive from Rhode Island.

Authorities say the mafia ordered strip club operators to make monthly payments of $2,000 to $6,000 as part of the plot. The conduct of DiNunzio and a co-defendant, Theodore “Teddy” Cardillo, netted at least $2 million in ill-gotten gains, the indictment said. Cardillo, a manager at the Cadillac Lounge, has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to go to trial next month.

Boston Strip Clubs: Reputed North End mob boss ordered held

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

DiNunzio, 53, nodded and shrugged as U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David L. Martin, after a two-hour detention hearing, said that even if he agreed to place the accused East Boston mob boss on home confinement, “he has the ability to have others do his bidding.”
Martin said he feared DiNunzio harbored a “desire to take revenge on those who have broken the code of silence and cooperated with the government.” He also noted, “It is undisputed by the defense at this point that he is the head of organized crime in New England.”
DiNunzio was arrested last week in the North End on federal indictments charging him with extorting thousands of dollars in protection payments from Rhode Island strip clubs, topless bars and adult book stores as “acting boss” of New England La Cosa Nostra.
