The reputed acting boss of the New England mafia on Thursday was ordered to remain held without bail while awaiting trial on charges he participated in the shakedown of Providence strip clubs — a rap that prosecutors say Anthony L. DiNunzio boasted he could beat with his “nine lives.”
…
The indictment claims DiNunzio looked beyond strip clubs for extortion opportunities. Prosecutors say DiNunzio sent a member of the mob to New York to seek permission from the Gambino crime family to shake down an adult entertainment executive from Rhode Island.
…
Authorities say the mafia ordered strip club operators to make monthly payments of $2,000 to $6,000 as part of the plot. The conduct of DiNunzio and a co-defendant, Theodore “Teddy” Cardillo, netted at least $2 million in ill-gotten gains, the indictment said. Cardillo, a manager at the Cadillac Lounge, has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to go to trial next month.

Keith Jermyn, Hingham Veterans Services Director hosted the ceremony and said he is very proud of his fellow serviceman.
“I think we are fortunate to have a police officer who is as dedicated as he is,” Jermyn said. “It’s a great privilege and honor to be able to welcome him home today.”
Cpl. Marquardt was escorted from the Hingham town line on Derby Street to the Hingham Police Station at the Town Hall by the Hingham Police and Fire Department. Jermyn said the escort service is part of a long-standing tradition in Hingham. Hingham police and fire and veterans traditionally escort soldiers, sailors, airman and marines who return from service, from the town line to their place of residence. Although Marquardt lives in Halifax, Jermyn said the town considers the Hingham Police Station his second home.

The reputed “acting” godfather of the New England Mafia claims health scares and the fact that he stayed put in Boston despite knowing he was in the FBI’s cross hairs for the past year should calm any concerns that he’ll go on the lam if returned to the streets.
“There is no likelihood of flight,” lawyers for Anthony DiNunzio assured Magistrate Judge David L. Martin in documents yesterday in advance of Thursday’s hearing in U.S. District Court in Providence. There, they’ll argue against his continued detention.
DiNunzio, 53, of East Boston took over as “acting boss” of the mob in 2009, when his big brother Carmen “The Cheeseman” DiNunzio was sentenced to a six-year stretch for bribery, prosecutors have said. The younger DiNunzio was pinched in the North End on Wednesday on extortion and racketeering charges stemming from the alleged shakedown of several Ocean State strip clubs and porn shops for thousands of dollars in protection payments. He faces up to 45 years behind bars if convicted.

James came to Boston at once, found Mary working in a house of ill repute on North Margin Street and returned home without her. She moved from brothel to brothel and eventually met Tirrell, a wealthy and married father of two. He and Mary traveled together as man and wife, changing their names whenever they moved, and conducted a relationship as volatile as it was passionate; Mary once confided to a fellow boarder that she enjoyed quarreling with Tirrell because they had “such a good time making up.”

5. Let me get this straight: Jacksonville finishes 5-11, ranks dead last in offense and dead last in passing, yet takes a punter with its first pick of the third round? Someone please explain. “I think that’s an easy decision for me,” said Jags’ GM Gene Smith, “to get a starter in the third round.” Hmmm, last time I checked a punter wasn’t considered a starter. He was considered a punter. Maybe this is a sign that the new offense will look a lot like the old one.
FIVE QUOTES TO REMEMBER
1. “We’re going to be hard to handle in terms of size and physicalness and ball skills with the wideouts we have.” — Chicago GM Phil Emery.
2. “I mean, no, because I never shot up no strip club or nothing like that.” — Janoris Jenkins on if he should be compared to Pacman Jones.
